HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR NEW FURNITURE
As with anything, a little common sense goes a long way. We have compiled these cleaning suggestions from manufacturer's brochures and with more than 30 years of furniture knowledge. We do recommend you try any cleaning suggestions on an inconspicuous spot before cleaning an entire area. Midtown Furniture makes no claims nor will be liable for any of the suggestions listed below. Use these suggestions at your own discretion.
UPHOLSTERY
First defense for spills is blotting with a dry white cloth
Frequent vacuuming of the entire upholstery area will prevent dust from staining
Do not use cleaning products containing brightening agents
Flipping your pillows regularly will help maintain their shape
Whenever possible, limit the amount of direct sunlight on your furniture
Micro fiber may be cleaned with a mild soapy solution
Professional cleaning is always recommended for upholstery pieces
WOOD FURNITURE
Always dust, wipe and clean with the grain of the wood.
Dust with a soft cloth. Dust will scratch the furniture if not removed properly.
Use the same type of polish consistently as interchanging oil-based and wax-based polishes will cause a buildup and result in a foggy or cloudy appearance.
If a polished surface becomes foggy, rub it with a cloth dipped in a solution of one tablespoon of vinegar to one quart of water. Rub softly with the grain until the surface is completely dry.
Soap and water are not advisable for wood surfaces. Water can penetrate the finish and raise the grain on wood causing damage.
Remember to change dusting cloths frequently as dirty cloths may scratch your furniture's surface.
Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and/or humidity extremes
Wipe off spills immediately
Do not allow rubber or vinyl materials to lie on furniture. Chemicals in rubber and vinyl may leave a stain. Put a strip of cork and felt under items that have rubber or vinyl
Do not place against a heater or radiator
Do not place in the path of hot air streams from central heating
White spots are created by not using protective pads or coasters under hot or damp items.
Alcohol, perfume, after-shave, medicines & many other household products can cause severe finish damage.
Always disassemble beds prior to any movement
Scratches and nicks can be touched up with a crayon, shoe polish or a touchup stick.
GRANITE TOPS
Protect the surface from scratching, staining and etching by: keeping them free of debris and sharp objects, wiping up spills immediately, and avoiding contact with chemicals (particularly acid-based materials)
Clean with pH neutral products or those formulated for stone
After a period of use, apply a penetrating sealer to prevent contaminants from being absorbed into the stone
MARBLE TOPS
Marble is a stone that can stain easily, treat marble the same as wood finishes
It is recommended to seal the tops every 6 to 12 months with a good quality stone sealer
